2. What to Collect Before You Start
You need the box, a wired connection, the MAC address from the label, and a portal URL from a provider that has registered that MAC. Gather these before touching the settings:
- The MAC address. Photograph the label under the box with your phone. On Infomir hardware it usually starts with 00:1A:79, and the characters that follow are easy to misread: 0 and O, 8 and B, 1 and l. Your provider needs it exactly right.
- Ethernet. Most MAG models are wired only. Models ending in “w3” have built-in Wi-Fi, and even those are steadier on a cable.
- A portal URL. For a MAG, the login is a portal address rather than a username and password. If you are still choosing a service, an IPTV free trial gives you a portal to test the box with once your MAC is registered.
- A USB keyboard, optional. Portal URLs are long and the MAG remote is slow for typing.
3. Why a Portal Is the Only Real Option
The recommended and, in practice, the only method for a MAG box is a portal URL linked to the box’s MAC address, because that is what MAG firmware is built to load. The Xtream Codes and M3U logins used on apps do not map cleanly onto a MAG.

If your welcome email only includes Xtream Codes or an M3U link, ask your provider whether a MAG portal is available. If it is not, the same subscription will work better on a device that runs player apps (section 7).
4. Firmware, Time Zone and NTP
Before you enter a portal, connect the box, install the latest firmware through Infomir’s built-in update tool, and set the time zone. MAG boxes have no app store, so this is the only “installation” step, and the time settings matter more than on any other device because the portal reads the clock from the box.
- Connect HDMI to the TV and Ethernet to the router. Plug in the power last.
- Wait for the box to start. With no portal set, it opens Infomir’s built-in interface or a portal loading screen.
- Open Settings > System settings. On many models, the remote’s Setup button goes straight there.
- Open Software update, choose the HTTP (internet) method, and install any release offered.
- Let the box download, install and restart. Do not switch it off during this step.
- Back in System settings, open Advanced settings and set Time zone to your part of Canada (Toronto, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Vancouver and so on).
- Open Servers and check the NTP server field. Leave the default if one is filled in, or use the value your provider recommends.
- Find the device information or status screen and confirm the MAC matches the label.
Update only from the box’s own menu or with files from Infomir’s official website. Unofficial firmware is the fastest way to turn a MAG into a paperweight.
5. Registering the MAC and Entering the Portal
The portal URL from your provider, paired with your registered MAC, is what connects the box. Send the MAC first, wait for confirmation, then enter the URL, so the portal recognizes the box on the first load.
- Send your MAC to your provider through their account area or support and wait for confirmation that it has been added.
- On the box, open Settings > System settings > Servers > Portals.
- In Portal 1 name, type a label such as “IPTV”.
- In Portal 1 URL, type the address exactly as given. Include http:// or https://, any port number and the ending path. MAG portal addresses often end in /c/.
- Leave Portal 2 empty unless your provider gave you a backup address.
- Press OK or Save.
- Go back to System settings and choose Reboot.
- After the restart, the box shows a loading screen and then your provider’s portal. The first load is slow while the channel list and guide download.
The three typing errors that cause most failed loads: a missing slash at the end, a lowercase L in place of the number 1, and http where the provider wrote https. Compare your entry with the email character by character before assuming anything else is wrong.
Multiple portals. The Portals screen normally holds two addresses, and firmware with multiportal mode allows more. Leave unused slots empty so the box does not try the wrong one at startup.
6. Guide, Favourites and Categories Inside the Portal
You reach the guide, favourites and channel categories inside your provider’s portal, not in the MAG system settings. Every portal is laid out by its provider, but Stalker and Ministra portals share a familiar pattern.
- TV guide: open the TV or live section and look for a guide or EPG view. Many MAG remotes have a dedicated EPG or Info button.
- Favourites: highlight a channel and press the favourite button, usually a star or one of the colour keys shown on screen. Build a short list on day one, because scrolling a full lineup with a MAG remote gets tedious.
- Categories: channels are grouped by genre or country. Jump between groups with the category list rather than paging through everything.
- Live and VOD are separate tiles on the portal home screen.
- Catch-up and recording appear only if the provider’s portal supports them.
If programs show an hour early or late, the portal is reading the wrong time from the box. Go back to the time zone and NTP settings in section 4 before touching anything in the portal.
7. When the Portal Will Not Load
The main alternative when a portal is unavailable or keeps failing is to use the same subscription on a device that runs IPTV player apps. A MAG has no app store, so there is no second player to try on the box itself.
- Portal 2. If your provider offers a backup address, add it and switch when the first is down.
- The built-in playlist feature. Some MAG firmware can open a playlist in the Embedded portal. It has no proper guide and is a temporary test at best.
- An IPTV-focused box. BuzzTV and Formuler or Dreamlink boxes accept both portals and Xtream Codes in their own players.

Before replacing hardware, test your subscription on another device. If it fails everywhere, the account or the MAC registration is the problem, not the box.
8. Video Output and a Second Box
Plan on at least 25 Mbps as the minimum for smooth IPTV on a MAG box, with headroom if other people stream at the same time. HD streams use about 10 Mbps each and 4K about 25 Mbps, and a MAG on Ethernet uses every bit of that more reliably than any Wi-Fi device.
Video output. In the system settings, open the video section and choose a resolution the TV supports. Set 4K output only on 4K-capable models such as the MAG524 or MAG544, and only when the TV supports it. If the picture flickers or goes black on certain channels, turn off automatic frame rate matching.
Wi-Fi on w3 models. Use the 5 GHz band and keep the router close. A MAG on a Wi-Fi adapter is the least stable setup in this whole series.
A second box. Each MAG needs its own MAC registered, and each box streaming at the same time uses a connection on your plan. Review the multi-connection options on an IPTV Subscription before buying a second unit, and watch the data cap, since 4K runs about 7 GB per hour.
9. Portal Errors, Buffering and Privacy
The primary fix for buffering and freezing on a MAG box is a wired Ethernet connection plus a full power cycle of the box and the router. Portal errors have their own causes, and each message points to one.

VPN context: MAG boxes have no simple VPN app, so a VPN for a MAG runs on the router. It can hide your streaming from ISP traffic shaping, but it adds overhead, and the connection still needs to clear 25 Mbps with the VPN on. 10. Legal and Practical Considerations
IPTV technology is legal in Canada, and owning a MAG box is legal. Streaming or redistributing content without authorization from the rights holders can infringe the Copyright Act, and the portal you connect to is what decides that, not the box.
